Brett Favre finally shows up to practice

The modern version of the story “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” may also be “The Boy Who Cried Brett Favre Will Retire.” Brett Favre has gone north to Minnesota to participate in training camp with the Minnesota Vikings. Apparently a visit from teammates made all the main difference. It’s not known if the holder of more NFL records than any other NFL quarterback hasn’t said he surely will make it through an entire season yet, but if last year and him showing up at practice is a good sign there’s a good chance he will.

Brett Favre back in Minnesota

Brett Favre has showed up to practice ending months of intense speculation and debate. According to ESPN, Favre stepped off a plane and headed to practice on Tuesday, Aug. 17. If last year was any indicator, Brett Favre likely doesn’t need any stinking training camp. The Vikings lived up to their title, rampaging around the NFL and utterly destroyed a pathetic Dallas Cowboys squad in the first game of the post-season. In a loss in overtime to the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship game, Favre picked up the ankle injury that has plagued him since then.

Teammates may have made the difference

The lynchpin in Favre’s decision may have been some of his teammates. Some fellow Vikings went down to Hattiesburg, Miss., to Favre’s home to help him make his decision. Favre was visited by Steve Hutchinson, Ryan Longwell, and also the holder of arguably the pre-eminent mullet of our age, Jared Allen. Favre flew to Minnesota with them, so they must have made quite the case.

GrandFavre stands for making a fortune

If Favre plays this season, according to USA Today, he stands to earn $20 million. However, he is going to have to earn each penny. One of their opening games is going to be against the Packers, and they probably still want revenge. Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers put up some very good numbers last year, and knocking off the Vikings, with Favre to boot, could be a real feather in their cap.
